Collection: Michael Harley

The truth is out there.
Prescott native Michael Harley creates kinetic sculptures that bring vignettes of alien visitations to life. His whimsical tabletop works incorporate lights and electronics with clay, flagstone, metal and other natural materials. His pieces are always evolving, and as irresistibly intriguing as the UFOs that inspire them.

Michael Harley having a little fun.

About the Artist

Michael Harley has been sculpting since the 1960s, when he learned scuba diving in the U.S. Navy and began recreating divers, fish, seagrass and other undersea scenes. A plumber-turned-sculptor living near Roswell, New Mexico, he was struck with the idea of making flying saucers and aliens. The idea of them landing in the surrounding desert came naturally to him, as he’d lived there most of his life, and had seen some unexplained things himself.

His work is always evolving. Now, he uses lights and electronics in addition to metal, and has begun to sculpt with clay and custom-made molds.

Michael makes UFO art because he believes in UFOs. His first sighting was here in Prescott as a teen. Later, in New Mexico, he photographed other strange lights that no one could explain. Until he hears a credible explanation, he plans to keep on believing, and creating scenes his imagination comes up with.
