Art that brings life and color to your home

Ans is a figurative oil painter from Bavaria, Germany living in the mountains outside Prescott, Arizona. She paints bright and contemporary wildlife portraits that aim to capture movement and energy. Large, colorful hummingbirds in motion are her signature series. 

Ans likes to capture the character and spirit of her subjects by combining detailed realism with bold brushstrokes. 

‘I’m fascinated by hummingbirds because they’re so unique: they’re tiny, shiny and elegant, at the same time they are remarkably resilient and can be quite feisty. The combination of brilliant beauty and attitude makes them great models for uplifting paintings.  

The interplay of both focus and movement has been my pursuit when portraying birds and other wildlife. Combined with botanical beauty I aim to create paintings full of life.” 

In 2024 her husband, Matthew, joined her full time. This now enables the Carnes team to pursue her art on a new level. 

Ans is excited to be represented by Ian Russel Gallery in Prescott. She has been juried into various Fine Art shows for the last 6 years, such as the AZ Fine Art Expo Scottsdale, the Phippen Museum Art show Prescott, Beavercreek, Broadmoor, Art in the Rockies, Lionshead Village Colorado, the Albuquerque Ballon festival and more. Ans has recently been published in Sedona Monthly magazine and won the Viewer’s choice awards at the Phoenix Zoo Wild Side Gallery Show.
