Handcrafted entirely from reclaimed steel and salvaged mechanical components, this one-of-a-kind sculpture transforms discarded industrial materials into a raven with remarkable presence and personality. At 25 inches long, Napoleon has a strong silhouette that immediately captures the distinctive shape and character of the bird.
Groenjes layers shaped and weathered pieces of steel to build the raven’s body, wings, and feathers, incorporating mechanical hardware and found objects throughout the sculpture. Each component is carefully selected and positioned so that something once purely functional suddenly becomes part of a living form.
Natural rust, aged steel, exposed welds, and industrial patinas remain visible throughout the piece, giving Napoleon a rugged character that works perfectly with its subject. Rather than disguising where the materials came from, Groenjes makes their history part of the artwork.
