South by Southwest is a one-of-a-kind reclaimed metal sculpture that brings the spirit of the Old West into Klaine’s wonderfully strange, industrial world. A weathered cowboy hat tops a skeletal face, while an elaborate metal torso is pieced together with vintage-inspired details, ornate patterns, a Western belt buckle, and layers of beautifully aged metal.
At the center of the piece, a glowing amber light becomes its beating heart, casting a warm glow against the cool blues, aged copper, and natural patinas of the reclaimed materials. The contrast gives South by Southwest an incredible presence whether the light is on or off.
Paul Klaine has a knack for looking at forgotten objects and seeing something entirely different. Gears, hardware, scrap metal, and found pieces become characters with personality, humor, and stories of their own.
